The classic $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle AU coin is widely recognized nationwide.  The $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle coin was the result of the California Gold Rush and the resulting influx of gold sent to the United States Mint.  The $10 Eagle coin was already in existence, and the $20 Double Eagle Coin was created as a $20 coin that would be worth “double” that of the existing $10 Eagle.  The $20 Liberty Gold coin was minted from 1850 to 1907.  An important addition was made to the coin in 1866, the motto “In God We Trust” was added to the Double Eagle, an addition often sought after by seasoned Liberty Gold Double Eagle collectors.
