The South African 1 oz Gold Krugerrand is classically designed and internationally recognized and traded throughout the world. The 1 oz Gold Krugerrand coin depicts two iconic South African figures, the Springbok antelope and the profile of Paul Kruger, the past South African President.
The 1 oz South African Krugerrand was the first one ounce denominated gold coin in the world. It was first minted in 1967. Later, in 1980, the South African Mint began minting fractional Krugerrands in half ounce, quarter ounce and tenth ounce sizes. Since its inception, more than 50 million Krugerrands of various sizes have been minted.
The 1 oz Krugerrands hold their value more consistently than any of the other World Gold coins due to their international trading volumes and liquidity.
