British Gold Sovereign – Random Year
For nearly 200 years, the English Sovereign, now known as the British Gold Sovereign has been produced by the British Royal Mint. Known as the flagship coin of the Royal Mint, the Sovereigns are well known for their classic design. This British Gold Sovereign Random Year is from various years 2016 and earlier. The 2017 British Gold Sovereign is a special edition coin that differs from this sovereign with a unique MintMark.
The British Gold Sovereign is .2354 troy ounces in weight and is 91.67% pure Gold. The obverse pictures Queen Elizabeth II in profile while the reverse, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci, shows a mounted St. George slaying a dragon.
Recognized as one of the most established and oldest financial institutions in the world, the Royal Mint began producing coins for England. The Mint then began minting coins for Great Britain over 1,100 years ago. Many other countries have contracted with the Royal Mint to produce and export their various coins.
